I speak Portuguese daily with my Brazilian wife, I lived 3 years in Brazil, and I have a masters degree in Linguistics. The reason I am better than an average English teacher is that I can tell you how to shape your tongue inside your mouth to produce the correct pronunciation. I can also help you with prosody (intonation). We linguists know that children first learn intonation and then pronunciation before they learn grammar and when native language speakers hear bad intonation or pronunciation, it makes them have to work to understand you. That is not good for you or those listening. People actually judge foreign speakers more by their pronunciation and prosody than by their vocabulary and grammar. Choosing a linguist like myself will get you the best possible results.
