About Hugh
Hi, my name is Dr. Hugh Dalton. I am an Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Senior House Officer currently training in the South East of England.
I have broad clinical experience across acute medicine, cardiology, emergency medicine & critical care. I graduated with Honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Manchester and achieved First Class Honours in my intercalated degree in Urgent and Emergency Care. I was awarded honours in every year of my medical school training, including in my final examinations.
Alongside my clinical training, I have been actively involved in medical education, leadership, and curriculum-based teaching. I have designed and delivered structured teaching programmes for medical students, including final-year revision courses aligned to medical school curricula, and have contributed to undergraduate teaching within large UK teaching hospitals.
My experience includes coordinating teaching programmes, delivering small-group and classroom-based sessions, and supporting students with exam-focused learning. I have also been involved in academic research, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and national and international conference presentations, providing a strong foundation in academic medicine and evidence-based practice.
I have a particular interest in supporting students through examinations and key transitions, including written assessments, OSCEs, and early clinical training. I offer tailored support for medical students at all stages, as well as guidance for prospective applicants with medical school applications, interview preparation, and building a strong academic and extracurricular profile. I find teaching highly rewarding and aim to provide structured, personalised, and supportive tutoring to help students build confidence and achieve strong academic outcomes.

My tutoring approach is fully personalised to each student. I focus on building a clear and effective revision structure while developing strong exam technique. I support students in identifying weaker areas and work methodically to improve them. Together, we create a bespoke revision timetable and discuss how to organise revision time effectively, using a variety of proven revision techniques. Lessons also involve regular practice with exam-style questions and targeted support on more challenging topics, with the aim of increasing confidence and improving overall exam results.

Hugh is a methodical tutor who can make even the most challenging of subjects seem straightforward. Along with expanding my book knowledge Hugh gave excellent advice for communication stations. He left me well prepared for both MCQ and OSCE exams, and I gained an appreciation for how to apply my knowledge to clinical practice.
