About Mike
Hi, I’m Mike! I recently completed my integrated Master’s degree in Mathematics at the University of St Andrews, ranked among the UK’s top three universities for Mathematics.
I also have professional experience working with secondary-school pupils at The Portsmouth Grammar School. I’m friendly, patient and approachable, and aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing confidence in their mathematical ability.

I offer hour-long lessons in GCSE Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Additional Maths FSMQ, A-Level Maths and Further Maths.
I always prioritise understanding the concept over simply memorising the method. Knowing why something works is the surest way to knowing how it works and when to use it. However, I also know all too well that abstract mathematical concepts, especially at A Level, can be daunting!
I start with simple examples, building intuition and confidence before moving towards less familiar problems and independent problem-solving. I take a friendly and encouraging approach, inviting students to explain their thinking so that I can spot and gently correct misunderstandings along the way. For students preparing for public examinations, I combine this approach with targeted past-paper practice and exam technique.
