About Maria
I'm a freelance illustrator with over 10 years of experience with a BFA in illustration from the ArtCenter College of Design. I have over 8 years of experience working as an art teacher, and over 6 years of experience working specifically as a portfolio preparation tutor.
I love reading graphic and fantasy novels, hanging out with my 2 cats and my dog, and knitting. When I'm not tutoring I'm usually busy working as a professional DM for D&D games, and I live to collect more fancy dice. I am LGBTQ+ friendly, and feel it is important to respect the pronouns and identities of others.

I have a BFA in illustration from the ArtCenter College of Design and over 6 years of experience tutoring students for either an intro to how to create a portfolio (middle school age), to portfolios for college or art-specific high schools (high school) to portfolios for grad school or a career in the art industry (adult).
I am super organized, and a great teacher for a student who wants a spreadsheet with everything figured out and broken down for them to guide their schedule and instruction.
I stress creativity, and asking the right questions to get students to think about how they want to approach their work, tell a compelling and dynamic story, and express themselves in a way that is appealing to the places they are applying.
