About Tom
I’m Tom Short, an award-winning comedian, qualified teacher, and university lecturer in Comedy Writing and Performance. I’ve spent over a decade working professionally in stand-up, sketch, theatre, and alternative comedy — and just as importantly, helping other people find their voice and confidence on stage and on the page. I teach on the Comedy Writing and Performance course at the University of Salford, run the Comedy Lab workshops across the UK, and have worked with hundreds of writers and performers — from absolute beginners to comedians preparing their first Edinburgh Fringe shows. My students have gone on to: Create and tour their own comedy shows Perform at festivals including Edinburgh Fringe Win comedy competitions Write for stage, screen, and radio Set up their own comedy nights and collectives Whether you want to write stand-up, sketch comedy, character pieces, or just feel more confident being funny in public or at work — I’ll meet you where you’re at. No gatekeeping. No “you’re either funny or you’re not”. Comedy is a skill, and it can be learned.
