About Joseph
I am an award-winning actor, singer, dancer, director, and educator with more than two decades of professional experience on Broadway, in national tours, regional theater, television, and dance companies. A graduate of The Juilliard School — the first student in its history to pursue both Dance and Music Composition — I have built a career at the intersection of artistry, performance, and education. On Broadway, I have performed leading roles in West Side Story, A Chorus Line, and A Bronx Tale, as well as appearing in Phantom of the Opera, Spiderman, and more. My career has taken me across the country in first national tours as a leading man, and I have collaborated with legendary directors including Harold Prince, Susan Stroman, Jerry Zaks, Julie Taymor, Bob Avian, and Arthur Laurents, who cited me as “the best Riff I have ever seen.” I have also originated roles and danced with companies led by Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris, Jirí Kylián, Twyla Tharp, Ohad Naharin, and Pina Bausch. As a teacher, I have been on faculty or guest faculty at institutions such as Juilliard, Harvard, Peridance, and New Haven Ballet, creating original curricula in musical theater, ballet, composition, and contemporary repertory. My students have gone on to conservatories, professional companies, and Broadway stages. What defines my work is a commitment to excellence, authenticity, and inspiration. I believe in giving students direct, honest, and practical guidance drawn from real-world experience at the highest levels of the performing arts. Whether you are preparing an audition, building your technique, or exploring your passion for performance, I bring the same dedication and professionalism to your growth as I bring to my own career.

Teaching Method & Techniques
I teach musical theatre as a living, breathing art form — not separate skills in acting, singing, and dancing, but the integration of all three into one powerful performance. My approach is hands-on, practical, and rooted in my professional experience as an award-winning actor, singer, and dancer. Having performed as a leading man on Broadway (West Side Story, A Chorus Line, A Bronx Tale) and across the country in first national tours, I know what directors, casting teams, and audiences are looking for. I share that knowledge directly with my students, helping them develop technique, stage presence, and confidence. Every lesson is tailored to the individual — whether you are preparing a college audition, fine-tuning a repertoire package, or stepping into musical theatre for the first time.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A lesson begins with a focused warm-up to connect body, voice, and breath. We then dive into repertoire: songs, monologues, or dance combinations chosen to suit your goals. For singers, we analyze lyrics, shape phrasing, and work on authentic emotional connection. For actors, we explore character beats, intention, and delivery. For dancers, I bring authentic Broadway repertory and audition-style movement calls, building speed, stamina, and style. Auditioning students often run through a full “mock audition” with feedback on presentation, material selection, and performance under pressure. Every session ends with clear notes and actionable steps so you leave with both confidence and a plan.
What Sets Me Apart
What I offer is the perspective of someone who has lived every side of this profession — as a Broadway leading man, as a swing covering 15 roles at once, and as an ensemble member sustaining eight shows a week. My career has put me on stage with Broadway legends, under the direction of Harold Prince, Susan Stroman, Jerry Zaks, Arthur Laurents, Julie Taymor, and Bob Avian. I’ve been recognized by Arthur Laurents (author of West Side Story) as “the best Riff” he had ever seen, and I bring that level of artistry and professionalism into every coaching session. My goal is to give students the kind of direct, honest, and specific guidance that can only come from real-world Broadway experience.
Who the Lessons Are For
These lessons are designed for anyone with a passion for musical theatre. Young performers preparing for college or conservatory auditions will gain insider preparation and a polished audition package. Pre-professional and professional actors, singers, and dancers will strengthen their technique, expand their repertoire, and refine their audition strategy with coaching from someone who has been on both sides of the table. Adults of all levels are welcome too — whether you’re rediscovering your love of theatre, building confidence on stage, or simply wanting to learn from a Broadway professional. My promise is the same to every student: one-on-one training that is rigorous, inspiring, and tailored to help you grow as a performer.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Joseph is an amazingly talented performer, theater artist, and teacher. Having appeared on Broadway, Joseph has the real world experience that students are hungry for, and he is wonderful at sharing it and using it to inspire the next generation of musical theater artists to achieve their dreams. Joseph is not only a performer with Julliard and Broadway credits under his belt, but he has worked behind the table as well. He is a composer, lyricist, and book writer, a director, a producer, and even a stunning visual artist. Joseph is truly a jack of all theatrical trades, and any student would be lucky too study with him and gain even a fraction of the knowledge and talent he posses.
One of the most talented and insightful minds I’ve met. Great communication skills and delivers information in a fun, interesting and thought provoking way. Works well one on one and in large class settings. Highly recommend.
I’ve been working on Broadway for over a decade, and whenever I need to dig into a song, prep an audition side (in person or on camera), or get through one of those pesky dance calls, I turn to Joseph. His eye for detail and his ability to integrate acting, singing, and movement always take my work to the next level. Since working with him, I’ve booked more jobs than ever before, and I walk into every audition feeling prepared, confident, and authentic.
I’ve staged A Chorus Line around the world — from the Hollywood Bowl to Málaga, Spain with Antonio Banderas to New York City Center — and I’ve seen what true professional rigor looks like. Joseph brings that same standard into his ballet classes. He’s not drilling steps; he’s shaping dancers who understand phrasing, breath, and artistry. What I admire most is how he teaches students to move with strength and freedom at the same time. Any dancer who studies with him is in excellent hands.
