About Ashlyn
Hello, student! I'm a Bachelor of Science graduate with a passion for teaching. My goal is to encourage the next generation of learners to feel confident with their problem-solving skills, whether or not they want to pursue a career in STEM. I started tutoring university classes in 2018 as a peer tutor. After I graduated with a 3.89 GPA, I taught 2nd and 3rd year organic chemistry labs as a TA. I've always prided myself on being a safe person to talk to. My previous students have looked to me not only for academic help, but for help managing anxiety, building healthy study habits, and creating long-term goals. I'm currently focused on helping students grades 10-12 with their math and science courses. Each session is personalized to the student based on their needs, so creating a safe, respectful space to ask questions is a priority. I like to agree on a general topic before a session, but I keep the plan flexible to allow the student to focus on what they need the most help with.
My approach is to solve problems alongside a student, providing guidance where needed, rather than doing it for them. It builds stronger memory pathways, and encourages accountability.
I use objectives from the course curriculum as guidance, and create sample problems from the approved textbook and published practice exams. My students are also welcome to bring notes and questions they have from class.
