About Sam
I was raised in Phoenix, AZ and am currently based in New York City. I received both a bachelor's and master's degree from Arizona State University where I studied with acclaimed jazz drummer, Lewis Nash, for 5 years. For the past 10+ years, I’ve performed with many great musicians including Joel Frahm, Bruce Forman, Harold Mabern and Michael Weiss. I’ve also maintained a private lessons studio where I’ve had students move on to schools such as Berklee, New England Conservatory, Belmont University and SUNY Purchase.

I have taught all age ranges and skill levels. Over time, I’ve come to understand how to build lessons that are fun, comprehensible, and challenging. I have experience playing many types of music, although I specialize in jazz. This allows me to guide my students to their goals, while being there to provide practice material and create exercises. Every student is different and my strength lies in being flexible and understanding!
