• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I started tutoring as early as 17 years old. Initially I was teaching my siblings, to complete their homeworks and do well in exams. I also tutored my school juniors, especially for exam preparation. My juniors passed their exam with flying colors with their hard work and my guidance. This made to realize I've good tutoring skills and passion in teaching. At the same time, I'm so much happy to share my knowledge with other students and help them to gain understanding on any topic. Thus, I continued tutoring after joining college.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I do teach students from various age groups. From early education to SPM, even to elders who are interested to improve their language skills. I do teach Bahasa Melayu, English, Bahasa Tamil, Mathematics and Sciences (Inc Physics, Chemistry and Biology) from kindergarten to SPM levels. Both online and face to face classes are available.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My secondary school English teacher is my inspiration to teach others. She always make sure each student in her class understands what she teaches. She is the main reason for me to improve my English speaking skills. She helped me a lot during exams and tutored me after school hours. Till now, she's my role model, I've never seen a teacher who spend most of her time on students. Always stays back after class to teach extra class.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor should be able to understand their students. Not all students are same, everyone is unique and have their own ways of understanding. Thus, a good tutor must identify their students' interest in learning and use suitable methods of teaching. Moreover, a good tutor must have patience to deal with different student categories. Especially when teaching school kids, the tutor should be patient yet firm so that the kids can focus in the class. At the same time, they must be willing to teach the same topic as many times until the students understand completely. Besides, a good tutor should be open for 2 way communication. Tutors should allow their students to talk, discuss ideas, giving opinion about the topic taught so that students can improve their knowledge.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  When I was in SPM, my communication level was weak and I don't have confidence to talk in front of people. My English teacher encouraged me a lot to participate in various interschool competitions (eg public speaking, debate competition, poem recital, etc) to boost my confidence level. She helped me to join internship programme after completing my SPM. This made me to realize with a good guidance, any student can shine. I really hope I can be a teacher like her, guiding my students to achieve their goals.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Initially I faced challenges to manage my classes as I got many class requests. Then I managed my time by doing work and class schedules. I practiced to be disciplined and manage time well as I get more students. Now I don't feel time management is hard and I plan my classes ahead.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I'm passionate in guiding students to achieve their goals. I want to create impact on students' lives, attain the joy of seeing their growth, and the satisfaction derived from helping them understand and succeed. I'm committed to fostering a positive learning environment and creating meaningful connections with my students. Moreover, I express my passion for teaching as conveying the genuine desire to inspire and empower students. I find joy in facilitating learning, the satisfaction in witnessing students grasp new concepts, and the commitment to fostering a positive and supportive educational environment.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

  I possess a combination of qualities that make a Superprof. This includes a deep subject knowledge, effective communication skills, adaptability to different learning styles, patience, enthusiasm for teaching, and a genuine interest in my students' success. I am dedicated to creating engaging lessons, fostering a positive learning environment, and continuously seeking ways to improve my teaching methods. Passion, empathy, and a commitment to ongoing professional development are key attributes of myself. I go beyond the curriculum, aiming to inspire a love for learning and encouraging critical thinking. I'm adaptable, tailoring my approach to suit the unique needs and learning styles of each student. Besides, I'm patient and understanding, recognize that students may learn at different paces. I actively listen to students, provide constructive feedback, and create a supportive atmosphere that fosters curiosity and confidence.
