About Alex
I was born and raised in the Salinas Valley before going to UC Berkeley for 4 years; wherein I got Double Undergraduate Degrees in both Communications and Rhetoric. Immediately after graduating, I began teaching 7th Grade English Literature and Writing in Fruitvale Oakland for the last 3 years; COVID forced me to relocate back home, but hasn't yield my passion for learning and to teach. My passions and hobbies include exercise, watching, and studying Cinema, in addition to cooking, traveling, and discovering eclectic genres of music.

I try to keep my teaching method simple, while at the same time Humanistic: get to know my students, build strong, genuine relationships with them, before using it to break down the steps of every academic challenge; till they can replicate and create (Maslow's Hierarchy style) in a way that feels meaningful and earned. In other words, I want my students to buy into my personality and style, before having them do the work and recreate it (show what they know).
I also do not believe in moving forward (i.e. moving onto the next concept/standard) until the student demonstrates proficiency (via repetition).
