About Daniel
Hi! For the past four years I've been studying physics and maths, specialising towards astrophysics, at the University of Cambridge. I and now have first-class BA and MSci degrees. My Master's focused primarily on cosmology, which involves explaining and modelling the behaviour of the universe on the largest scales, looking in detail at the big bang and the possible ultimate fate of the universe.
I am a patient, friendly and enthusiastic tutor who strives to help students excel, while also passing on to them my enjoyment for the subject. I have worked with students at many different levels and abilities, so am able to tailor my teaching to any student's specific needs.
While working towards my degree I was using maths and physics techniques and concepts on a daily basis. I achieved four A*s at A-level, in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry, so I have a high level of familiarity with all years 7-13 maths and physics content. I left secondary school relatively recently, so I have knowledge of teaching methods used and can give practical advice on revision and exam technique.

My tutoring experience has led me to recognise that the most crucial quality in a teacher is patience. This is especially true for teaching maths and physics. Performing well in these subjects requires a thorough understanding of a few basic concepts, and I will make sure that my students gain that fundamental understanding before rushing into harder topics.
My sessions are interactive, and highly tailored to the student. Depending on what suits them best, I can give short lessons on specific topics, help with school work and/or go through practice exam questions. For both online and in-person, I tend to start the lesson by asking the student about content covered in the previous session, firming up their knowledge and filling in any gaps before going onto a new topic. For online teaching the primary resource will be a virtual whiteboard, accessible for both me and the student to write on. If in-person, I use pen and paper to illustrate concepts and go through test/exam questions with the student. I'm good at picking up on when a student doesn't understand a concept or technique, and don't mind explaining things lots of times in different ways. If the student and their parents feel it would help, I'm happy to set homework. The sessions would normally be one hour long, but this is negotiable.
I have experience tutoring maths and physics at secondary, GCSE and A-level standards. I am a versatile tutor, having taught students with a variety of needs - from people doing GCSE foundation maths, to an A-level student training for the British Physics Olympiad. I have experience with content and exam questions from the following exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge International.
At A-level I took maths, further maths, physics and chemistry, achieving four A*s. My university degree involves lots of maths and physics, so you can rest assured that I know any and all GCSE and A-level topics like the back of my hand.
Much of my recent tutoring has been for extra-curricular challenges, such as the Junior UKMT Challenge, UKMT Kangaroo, and the British Physics Olympiad.
I can offer coaching for University interviews, especially for Oxford and Cambridge. Additionally, I can tutor for University admissions tests, such as the Cambridge NSAA and STEP papers.
Having studied chemistry during my first year of university, I can offer chemistry tuition up to GCSE level.
I may be able to offer maths and physics tutoring at University level, depending on the specific topics required. The maths in my degree was largely applied, so I can offer help on areas such as Fourier analysis, complex analysis, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, scalar/vector/tensor calculus, and calculus of variations.
