About Anika
I have been TEFL certified since 2015 and have teaching experience with every age and in a variety of ESL levels from beginner to upper intermediate/advanced. I have been learning Spanish for 10 years, mostly through personal experience living and traveling in Latin America, and I now speak at an advanced level. I additionally have lots of experience & education in agriculture (I grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm), permaculture (natural gardening and more), and health & wellness, including certifications in Herbalism, Holistic Nutrition, Personal Training, and a Diploma of Permaculture Design. I also currently own a small business teaching herbal medicine and natural gardening in my local community. My tutoring is confidential, communicative, and personalized for you and your unique goals with English. I personally know the difficulties— as well as the rewards— of learning a second language in adulthood, so I can offer a genuine understanding to you on this journey, and I'll be cheering you on along the way!

My lessons are best suited to those who are self-motivated, have a focus on verbal fluency, and want to personalize their learning for their unique English goals. My skill in Spanish means I can provide extra understanding to Spanish speakers who may desire some level of communication in their native language. My experience and education in health & wellness and permaculture mean I am an optimal teacher for students who have interest in and/or are pursuing a career in one or more of these fields. I believe the best way to learn how to speak and understand a language fluently is through practice and immersion—so if that is your goal, then I will nudge you to speak as much as you can with me in English (rather than Spanish if that is your first language), and I will do the same, even if it is difficult and slow at first. I can be very flexible in providing personalized materials (reading, listening, testing, etc.) to help you reach your specific goals. My genuine love and interest in languages mean I will happily deep dive with you into any area of English that you would like to better understand, and share my love of this language (and all languages) with you!
