About Tabby
I'm Tabby, a first-year Law student at Cardiff University. I did my A-Levels in 2026 and got a B in English Language, a couple of marks off an A, plus an 8 in GCSE English Literature and a 7 in GCSE English Language. All AQA, which is the board I teach now.
Missing that A grade boundary by a couple of marks was genuinely annoying at the time, but it's turned out to be useful for tutoring. I know exactly what it feels like to be that close and not quite get there, and I'm good at spotting the small, fixable things that are probably costing you those same few marks. English was the subject I worked hardest at all through school, and my NEA (the coursework bit almost everyone struggles with, since there's no obvious "correct" answer) got a top band mark.
I got into tutoring because it wasn't that long ago I was the one revising for these exact papers. I still remember which parts of the mark scheme never made sense until someone explained them properly, which bits of the anthology everyone skips, and which parts of the NEA nobody tells you about until it's too late. A teacher who sat these exams a decade ago doesn't have that as fresh in their head. I think that's the main thing I bring to a lesson.

GCSE English Language: Lessons cover Paper 1 (creative reading and writing) and Paper 2 (writers' viewpoints and perspectives), plus the Spoken Language endorsement, with a strong focus on turning "I don't know what to write" into a clear, confident exam technique.
GCSE English Literature: Lessons focus on your specific set texts: commonly Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the Power and Conflict anthology; building the quotation knowledge, context and structural analysis that separate a 6 from an 8.
A-Level English Language: Lessons cover Language, the Individual and Society and Language Diversity and Change, alongside hands-on NEA support; from data commentary to structuring an original writing piece. From someone who scored top marks range on their own investigation.
