My Approach to Tutoring ICT, Math and Chemistry
Teaching Techniques and Methodology:
In both Math and Chemistry, I focus on building a strong foundation by ensuring that students understand core concepts before moving on to complex problems. My approach is highly interactive and personalized—I explain each topic step-by-step using simple language, real-life examples, and visual aids like diagrams, equations, and charts. For problem-solving, I demonstrate the method first, then guide the student through similar problems to build their confidence and independence.
In Math, I emphasize logical thinking and pattern recognition, while in Chemistry, I focus on understanding reactions, atomic theory, and calculations through visual models and structured practice.
To keep students engaged, I:
Use practice questions and quizzes to reinforce learning
Provide summary notes and cheat sheets for revision
Offer exam strategies and time management tips
Regularly check understanding through short reviews and feedback
Typical Length of a Lesson:
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, which allows time to explain concepts, solve problems together, and assign follow-up practice. For younger students or focused review sessions, I also offer 30-minute sessions. Longer sessions of 90 minutes can be arranged for advanced students or exam preparation.
Qualifications and Experience as a Tutor:
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and have over 5 years of tutoring and industrial experience helping students from primary through high school in ICT, Math, and Chemistry. I have:
Assisted students in improving their school performance and exam scores
Helped learners prepare for national and international exams
Provided tutoring both in-person and online
Experience creating custom lesson plans based on school curriculum (NCEA, Cambridge, or other systems)
