About Lisa

As an educator with 21 years of middle and high school classroom experience and a Specialist Degree in Math Education, my mission is to make math accessible and stress-free for every learner. Throughout my career in special education, I have supported hundreds of students with ADHD, dyscalculia, IEPs, and 504 plans who felt left behind by standard teaching methods. I bring deep patience, professional expertise, and proven instructional strategies to every session. I pride myself on building genuine confidence, breaking down learning barriers, and helping students realize that they are fully capable of succeeding in math.

About the lesson

What sets me apart from a standard math tutor is my 21 years in the classroom specifically as a Special Education Math Teacher. Holding a Specialist Degree in Math Education, my true expertise lies in translating complex math concepts for middle and high school students with ADHD, dyscalculia, IEPs, and 504 plans. I understand that traditional math classes don't work for everyone.

My lessons are designed for students who feel overwhelmed, experience math anxiety, or have been left behind by standard pacing. I use specialized, highly scaffolded techniques—breaking down overwhelming equations into simple, visual chunks to reduce cognitive overload and working memory strain.

A typical session starts with a low-stress warm-up to build immediate confidence. Next, we move into targeted instruction where I introduce concepts using specialized visual strategies tailored to your student's exact accommodations. We spend the bulk of our time in guided practice—working side-by-side with immediate feedback so mistakes become learning opportunities, not points of frustration. We end with a quick check for understanding. My ultimate goal is to transform math anxiety into math confidence, honoring exactly how your student's brain works.
