It is important to create an emotionally safe and intellectually challenging as well as fun learning environmnet. Students do well when they realize that little failures are to be expected and better conceptual understanding requires small failures that help to refuc your understanding of the material. It is critical, especially with grades 6-12, that students understand that my impression of them as a person is in no way related to their academic success or failure. Any criticism I offer will be constructive and only about the task they are doing, not about them as a person. In today's current social climate, anxieties are high. Anything I can do to reduce barriers to learning within reason, I will do because eadch students needs to be able to feel successful, given their apptitude and ability, to reach their potential. They also need to realize that not everyone is capable of reaching the same level of content mastery. Lastly you never make assumptions about what a student knows. Through verbal questioning and looking at the notes the students takes along with graded work, I am usually able to narrow down the range of possible problems a student is having that is preventing them from being successful. You must start at the point that the student is at and ensure they have some success and feel that they are (1) capable of continuing to succeed, and (2) understand that I would be there to support their learning without judging their value as a person. You teach to the person, not the test!

Parents are free to contact me and we can discuss their child's needs and we can agree on a rate that is fair and equitable for both parties. I have a BS, MS in biology, equivalent of a M.ED., adn a Ph.D. in research methods and applied statistics. I have taught general biology (2 semesters for nonscience majors), general biology for biology majors, AP biology. high school general biology, 7th grade life science, college level Anatomy and Physiology, Invertbrate Zoology. teaching assistant for Vascular Plant Morphology, biostatistics (all of these at collegiate level) as well as a 3000-4000 level introduction to statistics course. I have 30 graduate hours of course work in educational psychology and I stay current on the best pedagocial practices for STEM disciplines. I teach a graduate level course for new STEM graduate stduents at UGA on effective teaching methods. I also have 15 semester hours of special education courses and I am very familiar with pricnciples of universal course design as well as adaptive testing. I started teaching as an undergraduate at UA in 1978 and I have been teaching ever since that first term because it is a joy for me. My pricing reflects my unique set of skills and training as well as the diverse number of courses that I have experience teaching along with my advanced education. I am more than happy to provide you with student emails about my teaching as well as course evals and GA EOCT biology scores of my last year teaching in Gwinnett CO (in non identifiable data format).
