About Devin
Hi! I'm Devin, I'm a freshman at Mercer University. I scored a 35 on my ACT and a 1420 on the SAT. As I am pursing a Bachelors of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Computer engineering, I have a love of math, and while I'm not going to add a Math Minor, there are enough classes in my core curriculum to expand my mathematics knowledge extensively. I absolutely enjoy both learning and teaching, as it allows me to expand my knowledge and impart that knowledge unto others. Throughout high school, I was the "tutor" friend who helped my friends understand their work and what they didn't get in their courses. I am pursuing a minor in Psychology as well, allowing me to understand others better and how the brain works, which can help with how I teach.

I approach teaching more as how the student needs to learn, rather than what I need to teach. As the student is the most important part of any student-teacher relationship, teaching is best administered when the teacher keeps the student's needs in mind, and as such each lesson will be different. A typical lesson plan includes review and background context, having the student try to explain to me what they think/know the objective is about and how to reach that objective, correcting any mistakes and then filling in gaps in that knowledge, then expanding on it so that the student not only understands how the concept works, but why the concept works. I will teach 8th grade to 11th grade, Pre-algebra through Pre-Calculus. Some other key ingredients to my lessons is that I know how to explain things multiple ways(even if I prefer to do things one way, what matters most is that the student knows a way to do it that benefits them.)
