About Eva
I am currently a senior at Cornell University majoring in astrophysics; I spent my first two years at college on the pre-med path, taking math and physics classes here and there for fun, but I cultivated a love for math and the applications it has in astronomy and physics, and as a result ended up switching my major.
I have always been passionate about teaching, and my long-term career goals involve leading research/teaching topics in astrophysics.
I spent a year tutoring 4th and 5th-grade math, and have tutored my peers at Cornell in precalculus, calculus, and physics- I enjoy working with students of all ages and it is always a joyful and satisfying experience for me!

Before our first session, I give some work to assess where the student is and to set a baseline for what they know and don't know.
I like to focus on theory and practice so that learning is more in depth and not just rote practice. Typically the first half of the session is reviewing work I assigned the session or homework assignments, working through any mistakes together. I encourage the student to verbally explain each step of their problem-solving process, right or wrong, and how it connects to the theory.
The second half of the session is spent learning; I guide the student through the next topic and focus on the concepts before going into example exercises. I assign problems every week to make sure that the student knows the topic in-depth and can apply it to problem-solving in an effective and thoughtful manner.
I like to establish a firm understanding of the theoretical basis of the topics; I believe having a thorough understanding of the concepts and being able to bridge them to real-world applications sets up the student for long-term success. Without understanding the real meaning behind the mathematical principles, trying to solve homework and exam problems won't be as effective, and my goal is that the student will be able to articulate the reasoning behind each step of solving a problem and be able to take that method into all their future work.
I work with students K-12, but I have the most experience teaching math and physics for early high schoolers, particularly trigonometry, precalculus/calculus, and 9th/10th-grade level physics.
