About Mathew
Teaching guitar for 8 years has given me insight into how personalized instruction transforms the learning experience. I begin by understanding each student’s musical preferences, goals, and learning style to tailor lessons that are both enjoyable and effective. We focus on technical skills like finger positioning, chord changes, and rhythm, but also prioritize musicality through improvisation and songwriting exercises. I use the student’s favorite songs to teach theory and technique in a relevant context, which helps maintain motivation. One memorable success was helping a student progress from basic chords to performing confidently at a community event. Technology such as backing tracks, metronomes, and recording tools is incorporated to enhance practice outside lessons. I strive to create a patient and encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Whether you want to play casually, perform live, or compose music, I’m committed to supporting you every step of the way.

When I teach Guitar, I treat it like a shared creative journey. You’re not just learning notes and chords — you’re learning how to make music that expresses something about who you are. That’s why I always start with what inspires you, whether that’s a favorite band, a particular sound, or a musical dream you’ve always wanted to chase.
We don’t force a generic method — we shape a path that’s based on your interests and learning style. We use real songs as vehicles for learning the fundamentals of Guitar: rhythm, tone, finger technique, and musicality. That way, every skill you develop feels relevant. Motivation is a priority for me. If you’re excited about what you’re learning, you’ll stick with it.
And if you’re stuck or discouraged, we work together to figure out why and how to move forward. I don’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions — I take the time to understand the problem and give you tools to solve it. This builds real confidence, which is the foundation for lasting progress. I’m also deeply committed to teaching with integrity. I give honest, thoughtful feedback that helps you grow without feeling judged. You’ll always know what’s working, what’s improving, and where to focus next. I stay flexible in how I teach, adapting to your pace and how your brain naturally processes information. Some people thrive with structured lessons, others need freedom to explore.
I support both. Beyond Guitar technique, I also help with songwriting, improvising, understanding musical language, and even preparing for performance if that’s part of your journey. Whether you’re playing in your bedroom or dreaming of a stage, I want you to feel empowered by music. My teaching is about more than just playing — it’s about giving you the tools to grow creatively, express yourself, and truly enjoy the process.
