About Saoirse
Hi! I’m a rising senior based in Carlisle, PA, and I’m passionate about all things reading, writing, and learning. When I’m not tutoring or working on freelance writing projects, you can find me running hurdles for my school’s track and field team, building with the robotics club, or editing the latest edition of our literary magazine—where I serve as editor-in-chief. I’ve been honored to receive recognition for my writing at both the school and national levels. I’m the first student in my school’s history to win all four of our annual writing awards—for three years in a row—and I’ve earned both Gold and Silver Keys in the Scholastic Writing Awards. I’ve also been recognized in several VFW post competitions for my essays. Beyond awards, I write professionally as a freelance author and love helping others find their own voice in writing. At home, I’m the oldest of four siblings, so I’m no stranger to helping younger learners with their homework or cheering them on through tough assignments. I work well with students in elementary through early high school, especially those looking to build confidence in English and the humanities. My goal is always to make learning fun, rewarding, and personal. Also, fun fact: I have three cats—Dreamsicle, Pharaoh, and Tater—who sometimes make surprise cameos during virtual sessions!

As a tutor, I believe that learning flourishes in an environment of curiosity, patience, and genuine connection. My approach is student-centered and adaptive—I meet each learner where they are and build from there, encouraging confidence as well as competence. I aim not only to strengthen a student’s academic skills in English and the humanities but also to help them find their own voice and enjoyment in reading, writing, and thinking critically.
I use a combination of inquiry-based learning and scaffolded instruction. This means I ask thoughtful questions to guide students toward deeper understanding while also breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps. Whether we’re working on essay structure, reading comprehension, grammar, or literary analysis, I bring in visual aids, real-world examples, and interactive discussion. I also prioritize consistent feedback and reflection, helping students track their progress and take ownership of their learning.
A typical session is 45–60 minutes and includes the following structure:
Warm-up (5–10 minutes): A short activity to review previous material or activate prior knowledge (e.g., a mini writing prompt or vocabulary game).
Main Lesson (25–35 minutes): Focused work on the day’s topic—this might involve analyzing a passage from a novel, outlining a paragraph, reviewing grammar rules, or preparing for an upcoming test or assignment.
Practice/Application (10–15 minutes): Independent or guided practice that reinforces the lesson’s objectives.
Wrap-up and Reflection (5 minutes): We briefly review what was covered, answer lingering questions, and set goals for next time.
I often assign optional light homework or suggest enrichment activities (such as journaling, reading recommendations, or editing challenges) for students who want more.
I bring a writer’s eye and a student’s empathy to every session. As a critically acclaimed, award-winning student myself, I understand the pressure young learners face—but I also know how to turn that pressure into motivation and pride. I’ve been in their shoes recently enough to relate, yet I’ve also developed the tools and strategies to help them grow. I strive to make sessions warm, encouraging, and intellectually engaging, with the right mix of fun and rigor.
I tutor students from late elementary school through early high school—typically grades 4 through 10. Whether a student is struggling with reading comprehension, needs help organizing their writing, wants to prepare for standardized testing, or is simply looking to deepen their love of literature, I tailor each session to their unique needs, grade level, and learning style. I also work well with gifted students and those who benefit from creative approaches to learning.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Saoirse has been tutoring my 9-year-old daughter in reading and writing for the past few months, and I can’t speak highly enough about the experience. We know Saoirse through mutual friends, and I was immediately impressed by her maturity, professionalism, and deep love of language—even as a high school student herself.
Saoirse strikes the perfect balance between being approachable and being highly skilled. She always comes prepared with creative, engaging lessons that keep my daughter focused and excited. She’s improved significantly in reading fluency and sentence construction, and—perhaps more importantly—she’s developed a newfound love for storytelling.
Saoirse is the kind of tutor who brings out the best in her students. She’s kind, encouraging, and knows how to make learning feel personal and joyful. I highly recommend her to any family on Superprof seeking someone who is not only talented, but truly cares about helping kids grow.I am a middle school English teacher and reached out to Saoirse last year for extra grammar support for my 11-year-old son, who was struggling with the fundamentals of sentence structure and punctuation. From the very first session, Saoirse brought a calm, friendly energy that put my son at ease, while also maintaining a clear and focused approach to learning.
She has a unique gift for making grammar feel less intimidating—she used real examples, interactive exercises, and even some humor to help him understand concepts that had previously confused him. I appreciated that she was always prepared, patient, and adaptable, tailoring each session to what my son needed most that week. His writing and confidence have improved dramatically, and he now approaches English assignments with excitement rather than dread.
I wholeheartedly recommend Saoirse to any Superprof family looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and compassionate tutor who truly connects with students. She’s the kind of tutor I would want in every classroom.View more recommendations
