About Sophie
I am currently a first year medical student. I am also science graduate with a first class bachelors degree in Biological Science and a Masters degree in research. As a student who has struggled academically in the past yet managed to become a high achiever, I’m passionate about helping students realise their potential lies far beyond their current circumstances and troubles. I am an avid lifelong learner and greatly passionate about science and education, and I love to teach and communicate science to others (some say because I’m good at it!!). I also participate in educational outreach events with the British society of immunology to engage young students in the realm of the immune system and what research is and why it’s so important. I get great satisfaction from helping students overcome academic obstacles and realise that they can do anything they put their minds to.

As a graduate with a BSc and Master of Research, I’ve got plenty of hands on experience with learning techniques and resources. I create my own PowerPoints tailored to your child’s exam board criteria, I include ‘warm up’ and ‘re-cap’ questions/answers at the beginning of lessons and provide a set of practice questions after each lesson. Materials and PowerPoints are always shared with students so they can go back over topics when revising.
I also tailor resources to each Tutee’s learning preferences, such as including more diagrams and annotated pictures for those who learn best visually, video clips to recap theory and application slides to show students where this information fits and is used in real life, to add to the enjoyment of learning complex concepts.
I have experience teaching students of all academic ability and helping students to understand their best learning style. I also coach students on how to manage their workloads, stress and how to adapt their learning styles between subjects and to help them learn effectively. I also provide CV, job and further study advice and help to go through application processes. Each Tutee gets a personalised experience to tutoring sessions, control over what content they wish to focus more on, and contact with me between lessons if they need advice or help with homework, assignments and careers advice.
