About Olivia
I am a graduate from Florida State University, with a degree in communication science and disorders. I am now a graduate student at University of North Carolina Greensboro, studying speech-language pathology. My favorite aspect of the field is language and literacy learning. I would love to help students of all ages discover the joy and power of reading, writing, and effective communication. My academic background gives me a unique, evidence-based understanding of how language develops and how people learn to read and write. I'm passionate about making literacy accessible and exciting, whether that means helping a struggling reader build confidence, guiding a student through essay writing, or supporting English language learners as they develop their skills. My hobbies include reading, cooking, baking, gardening, and spending time with my pets!

My Teaching Approach I believe in creating a dynamic, student-centered learning environment where language, literacy, and writing skills develop together through meaningful practice and genuine engagement. My method integrates reading comprehension, critical analysis, and expressive writing with strong communication skills, adapting to each student's learning style, goals, and interests. I focus on building confidence alongside competence, creating a safe space where mistakes are celebrated as learning opportunities and where every student discovers their unique voice on the page. A Typical Lesson Each 60-minute session follows a balanced structure: Warm-up (10 min): Reading discussion, writing prompt, or grammar review to activate critical thinking Core Focus (30 min): Targeted work on specific skills—whether that's reading comprehension strategies, essay structure, creative writing techniques, grammar fundamentals, or literary analysis—using diverse texts from contemporary articles to classic literature Practice & Application (15 min): Hands-on writing exercises, close reading practice, peer review activities, or revision workshops that let you apply what you've learned Wrap-up & Homework (5 min): Summary of key takeaways and personalized reading or writing practice for the week ahead Every lesson is tailored to your progress and priorities, with flexibility to address questions or challenges as they arise. What Sets Me Apart I don't just teach rules—I help you develop as a reader, writer, and thinker. My approach goes beyond grammar drills to cultivate your critical literacy skills and authentic writing voice. I bring genuine enthusiasm to every session, celebrate your progress, and provide detailed, constructive feedback that helps you understand not just what works, but why. Whether we're analyzing a poem or crafting a persuasive essay, I'm committed to understanding your unique goals and building a curriculum that gets you there efficiently and enjoyably. Who These Lessons Are For My lessons are designed for: Students of all ages developing foundational or advanced literacy skills Middle and high school students working on essay writing, literary analysis, or test preparation Adult learners building reading comprehension, writing confidence, or preparing for GED/equivalency exams Creative writers exploring fiction, poetry, memoir, or personal essay writing Professionals strengthening business writing, report writing, or communication skills English language learners (intermediate to advanced) integrating literacy and writing development with language acquisition Whether you're struggling with reading comprehension, crafting your first short story, polishing a college application essay, or developing professional writing skills, I'm here to guide your journey toward confident, skilled literacy and expression.
