About Camilla
Hello,
My name is Camilla Colanzi I am 19 years old and I come from Rome, Italy. I moved to London a year ago to begin my degree in Psychology at University of West London. I finished my first year with a 2.1 and I am currently about to start my second year!
I was born and brought up in Rome with a completely Italian family therefore Italian is my mother tongue. However, I went to a private English school in Rome (Southlands English School in Rome) for all of my school years up until the end of year 8. After that I went to a public Italian high school (Liceo Scientifico Democrito) and also got my Cambridge certificate in Advanced English Level C1. Therefore, I am completely with the language.
One of my great passions is teaching. I have worked with children aged 4-8 in an English speaking summer camp in Rome for 3 consecutive summers and cannot wait to begin the fourth! This experience has definitely helped me develop a high sense of responsibility and awareness by taking care of children of very young age for most of the day. It has also enhanced my problem solving skills and lecturing skills whilst at the same time keeping the child engaged using fun and creative methods. I have also tutored 10-12 year olds privately in both English and Italian.
I love working with different students and finding the learning approach that works best for each individual pupil. I am a strong believer that each child has great potential just waiting to surface and it is a teacher's job to encourage and give students the means to achieve their goals and find their strengths.
The subjects I am confident in teaching are: Italian, English, Design and Craft, Art, maths and confidence coaching.
Italian: I have had previous tutoring experience with children in Italian. It is my native language, therefore I am confident with all of the grammar and sentence structures and also have a basic knowledge of Italian literature from my high school studies.
English: I have tutored and taught children in English before. I have studied the language for most of my school life therefore I am almost mother-tongue. I am confident with grammar and vocabulary as reported in my Cambridge certificate in Advanced English level C1.
Design and Craft, Art: I love art and creativity and working in the summer camp has definitely given me the skills that are required to teach these subjects at a primary level.
Maths: The high school I attended in Italy was a scientific high school, meaning it had a primary focus on subjects such as maths, physics and science. For this reason I am confident in maths to children at a primary level.
Confidence Coaching: A very important module in my first year of Psychology was "Growing Up". Here we thoroughly studied the development of the child from birth to young adult with all it's challenges and difficulties. I appreciate how difficult the transition from child to teenager is and having been through it first hand not long ago and having then studied the subject on a more in depth level, I am confident I can give my complete advice and support to a child that is going through this hard but crucial stage in their life.
