My personal approach on learning English is through various exercises being in writing and comprehension alongside implementing learning through visual and hearing in movies and music.
I shall assign a topic per week and it will then be used throughout the 2 or 3 days of teaching. For example: French Cuisine, Life of Pi (Character Analysis) and Formation of Stars and How it Relates to Us.
