About Stephen
I am a Drama teacher who taught Secondary School Drama for 20 years to both GCSE and A Level standard. I was very proud that for 10 years (prior to leaving the school) my GCSE exam results never fell below 92% A* - C. I have also taught some young people who now have professional careers in the industry. I have also been an actor for 35 years and also have a great wealth of directing experience, winning a Noda award in 2012 for my production of Oliver! and being nominated the following year for my production of Beauty and the Beast. I now own and run a theatre company in which I work with young people and adults in their performance strategies and skills. These are skills that they can apply to their own school drama and strive to achieve their true potential when it comes to exams.

I work with students up to GCSE and will help with text work and performance work as well as preparation for the written exam. I can do this in groups or as an individual, depending on requirements. In addition, for anyone preparing for auditions I will be able to help get your performance polished so that any casting director will take note of you. I consider myself to be approachable, making students feel comfortable with their own abilities when taking part in drama. I also encourage them to ask for support when it is needed. I am very detailed with feedback and I often model so the student knows what they are aiming for in order to achieve. I identify areas that need to be focused on and work out individual plans to help the individual student overcome any hurdle they may encounter. I also monitor progress carefully giving advice on how to move onto the next level. All students can achieve in drama no matter what their ability, which has always been my philosophy and has clearly shown through my results.

Steve is a great fun person who you will get on with straight away my 8 year old son loves going to his drama class and Steve has brought out his confidence an amazing amount and not just become a teacher his become a good friend to Alfie
My now 14 year old son, heavily into the performing arts, had his confidence totally destroyed by the owner of his old dance school. At the same time, starting GCSE drama, his highly experienced and well-liked drama teacher left his school. He felt totally down and deserted. Then enter Stephen Hulse and his drama school. My son's confidence has returned. His Saturday lessons are the highlight of his week. Stephen really gets to know the children as individuals and plays to their strengths while encouraging them to challenge themselves. I know that attending classes will aid my son with his GCSE drama and that help with be available if required nearer exam time. Highly recommended.
