About Danae
I have been a drum tutor since 2017, and a music teacher since 2011, having worked with over 250 students. I'm currently pursuing my PhD on Performace Percussion in Istanbul Technical University Centre of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). I'm performing as a solo, featured or session artist and have participated in several projects, performed in venues and festivals in EU, UK, and Turkey, such as ESNS (NL), Arter Museum (TR), Fengaros Festival (CY), Rye Wax & Avalon CAfe (UK), Bonnefoi (BE), Glimps Festival (BE), Zorlu Center (TR), Sofar (TR).

I aim to help my students develop their drum-kit technique and music appreciation while motivating them to develop their own patterns and explore the variety of drum-kit sound qualities.
A lesson usually starts with warming up, including hand/foot technique and/or music theory. Next part of the class is to work on drumming vocabulary and repertoire which is chosen according to student's needs and our musical preferences. Also I encourage my students to improvise following specific ideas.
In order to boost my teaching, I use several drum method books along with individualized exercises and play-alongs tracks.
I mostly focus on funk, jazz, afrobeat, psychedelic rock, pop and alternative rock while digging into polyrhythms, traditional Anatolian music, odd meters & linear patterns. Through my lessons, I aim to focus on drums further than the role of a rhythmic / accompaniment instrument but also a melodic one with endless possibilities of sounds and textures.
