About James
Graduated in 2018 with a Doctorate in Sociology awarded by Cambridge University. Prior to that I studied Social and Cultural Theory at Bristol University and Media and Culture Studies at the University of the West of England. My PhD thesis has been published as a book: "The Precision Farming Revolution: global drivers of local agricultural methods". I graduated as a mature undergrad student at the age of 30 and prior to academia I worked as a DJ for the Sony Record Street team witch gives me a practical knowledge of subcultural movements and urban/rural divisions.

My approach to teaching is communicative. I believe in getting my students to speak as much as possible; stimulating ideas so that they are given the chance to voice their ideas on different aspects of social theory. Social and cultural theory has a practical application and I attempt to get my students to relate what are often quite abstract theories to their own everyday life-world or find examples in subcultures or mainstream media. My attitude is not one of a disciplinarian but more lead by example, giving my students the responsibility for their own learning and freedoms to guide their own inquiries.
