About Jiayi
Hi, I'm Jay — a dedicated and friendly math tutor with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students thrive. I'm currently studying Applied Computational Mathematical Sciences at the University of Washington, where I’ve developed a deep understanding of mathematical problem-solving and data-driven thinking. I’ve worked with students of various ages and learning styles, and I know that math can feel overwhelming at times. That’s why I focus on making it clear, approachable, and even enjoyable. Whether you're struggling with algebra or preparing for a big exam, I'm here to guide you step by step with patience and encouragement. Professionalism is at the heart of my tutoring. I prepare thoroughly for each lesson, communicate clearly, and make sure every session is structured to support your goals. My aim is not only to help you improve your grades but also to build your confidence and independence as a learner. With me, you’ll get more than just a tutor — you’ll gain a supportive partner in your academic journey. Let’s tackle math together, one concept at a time!

Hi, I’m Jiayi, also go by Jay — a passionate and patient math tutor dedicated to helping students from middle school through high school not only succeed but grow to enjoy mathematics.
My Teaching Method
I believe that every student learns differently. That’s why I tailor each lesson to match the student's learning style and current understanding. I use real-world examples, step-by-step explanations, and visual aids to break down complex concepts. Whether it’s algebra, geometry, or precalculus, I help students build a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced topics.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
Each session begins with a quick check-in to review what the student already knows and identify any sticking points. From there, we dive into the topic through guided practice, collaborative problem-solving, and targeted drills. I also include time for review and Q&A to reinforce learning and build confidence.
What Sets Me Apart
I don’t just teach math — I teach students how to think mathematically. My background in Applied Mathematics and experience working with diverse learners helps me explain challenging concepts in a way that feels approachable. I focus on building long-term problem-solving skills rather than short-term memorization.
Who I Work With
My lessons are ideal for students in grades 6–12 who are taking courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, or preparing for standardized tests like the SAT. I also welcome students who need extra support, want to get ahead, or simply want to enjoy math more.
