About Rahul
Hey, I’m Rahul! I'm currently a student at Princeton University working towards my Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research and Financial Engineering. Whether it’s working with classmates on engineering problems or helping students with homework, I realized that I love collaborating with others to help everyone understand their respective subject or concept. With my students, I always take input on lesson plans and goals, both for the short-term and long-term about what they want to get out of our work together.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring math and reading at Kumon. I worked mostly with Calculus, Geometry, and Algebra students, focusing on 3-4 students at a time. I also have one year of experience volunteering at Aim High, which is a summer school for middle school students in St. Louis City. These students were usually further behind in their curriculum and needed extra help, but I made sure to give them extra attention and emphasize lessons multiple time to solidify their understanding of the material. Recently, I’ve moved more towards tutoring online for students in quantitative subjects like math, physics, science, and I’ve also helped students with college counseling and essays for college applications.
I love going on a teaching and learning journey with my students. I want to help them achieve a sense of accomplishment that will drive them to find success in whatever field they go into. With my students, I first always take make an overarching lesson plan with both short-term and long-term goals about what they want to get out of our work together. I make sure I first understand what type of learning style best suits the student, whether that's visual, auditory, reading, or writing. I try to tailor each of my lessons and instructions based on the learning style and the goals of my students.
After a lesson or two, when I have more of an understanding of the learning style of my student, I try to set weekly goals for us to reach. A typical one of my lesson plans would include a small review from previous weeks lessons, an overview of any new subject that will be taught, exercises that I will work through with the student, and assignments that the student can complete after the lesson.
I think what sets me apart as a tutor is that I love to go on a teaching and learning journey with my students. I want to help my students achieve a sense of accomplishment that will drive them to find success in whatever field they go into. This drives me to be prepared, welcoming, and adaptable with each of my students. I am very accessible and try to accommodate to almost any requests that students or parents require.
Although I have experience teaching almost all ages from 5 year olds to 18 years olds, most of my students are middle schoolers and high schoolers. I tend to focus on quantitative subjects like math, physics, econ, or science, but am able to accommodate others. I also have experience college counseling with high school seniors.
