About Sarah
I am currently studying a Joint BA Honours degree in English and Education with the intention of progressing onto completing my PGCE in secondary school teaching. The Education part of my degree allows me to understand how best students learn, and the importance of adapting lessons to the individual students needs, as all students learn in a variety of ways. Although my intention is to progress on to teaching secondary school students my knowledge allows me to teach children of all ages. The English part of my degree allows me to use my knowledge to adapt and apply this to the National Curriculum which the majority of schools across the UK focus on, whether that be English Literature or English Language. I also strongly believe in linking subjects and subject knowledge as this has be known to increase the retention of information. For example one of the strongest links between subjects is English and History. In English students will come across a variety of different ideologies such as discrimination against race and the part race plays in canonical texts, and also feminism. We would learn about the history of both these issues through out the years which would enable students to have a curiosity about the world we live in.
I have not only studied A levels in English, Law and Psychology but have completed a Diploma in Education and childhood studies which gives me an advantage over other tutors in understanding learning barriers and have some ideas to overcome these.

My lessons are aimed at students from Key stage 1 up to Keys stage 4. and would be open to discussing A Level Essay writing and critical thinking which is important when going on to higher education. I plan my lessons depending on the individual students requirement. It is key for me to understand the area in which students require help in order to plan lessons with them and whether they have any learning barriers such as dyslexia this will allow for me to plan lessons accordingly, so initially a chat with either the parents or the student would be required.
I like to teach with a variety of different activities aimed at the students learning style, this is the style in which the individual student learns best and I tend to use the VARK model of learning styles when developing my lesson plans, but in order for students to make the most progress I will use a mixture of activities aimed at a variety of learning styles. This is because when they are in the classroom at school there teacher will take plan for all learning styles and to make the best progress the student will need to develop the skill of learning in a variety of ways and we can discuss how to best approach this in order for them to be able to adapt to every lesson.

Details
The initial first lesson will be free, and this can be done with the parents present and will allow for us to discuss areas where the students need the most help. It will also allow for me to get to know my students and create lesson plans with their requirements in mind After that I will charge 10 pound an hour or if booked in a block 5 hours will be 40 pound or a block of 10 hours will be 90 pounds excluding the free lesson so essentially you will be receiving 2 hours free per block booking. Any tutorials which are not attended to can still be charged unless their are extenuating circumstances.
