About Izzie
I am a recent Cambridge English graduate with a passion for English literature and a desire to inspire enthusiasm and excellent progress in my students. In terms of tutoring experience, I have run personal statement and Oxbridge admissions workshops at my former secondary school, tutored secondary school students at Explore Learning and volunteered as an English teacher at Beckmead special needs secondary school in Croydon. I have around 100 hours of experience and I can't wait to expand and teach further! I also consistently achieved high grades at school (all A-A*) and this informs the quality of my teaching as well as my desire to help students stay motivated, thrive and achieve their own goals.

My lessons are an hour long and focus on encouraging students to find their own personal connection with the texts we are exploring. Depending on the student's level (A-Level or GCSE), we will look at how literary techniques, genre, sociohistorical contexts and form inform, alter and shift our interpretations of the books, plays and poems we study. I also encourage students to draw connections between their text and contemporary film and music to not only foster great grades but an enthusiasm for and interest in English. We will go over the marking criteria and I like to help my students understand why each aspect of the criteria is important to their essays and interpretations as a whole, rather than merely learning by rote what and what not to include when they write. I believe that passion, patience, and a personal connection to each text are the key to succeeding and enjoying English literature and I work these qualities into my lessons.
