About Millie
I am a graduate of two degrees: one in English Language and Linguistics (BA) and the second in Psycholinguistics (MA). I graduated (virtually of course) from The University of York in 2020 and again in 2021 with grades I am very proud of. I also studied both English Language and English Literature to A Level where I achieved A grades. I am currently working towards my third degree which will qualify me as a Speech and Language Therapist.
I have just finished working in a mainstream secondary school supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I have lots of experience working with very stressed year 10s/11s of all abilities and have supported many through their English GCSEs. I am very up-to-date with the English curriculum and even invigilate exams as part of my role. I regularly TA in GCSE English lessons and as such I am very familiar with the curriculum, mark schemes, expectations and classroom experiences associated with the subject.
I appreciate the value of 1:1 tutoring both in-person and virtually! I am fully supportive of students who need a little extra boost in their GCSEs and take a calm, clear (and empathetic!) approach to tutoring in what can be a very stressful time for teenagers.

I am currently studying to become a Speech and Language Therapist in Manchester but have previous experience supporting students through their English GCSEs.
I know that a clear and consistent, structured approach to lessons allows students to access those mark schemes and tick all the boxes in their written work.
My lessons can cover any area of GCSE English Language and English Literature, depending on where the student's identified areas for improvement are. These include but are not limited to:
-Analysing fiction and non-fiction texts
-Comparing texts
-Structuring paragraphs to tick all the boxes
-Essay writing and structure
-Creative Writing
-Language methods and terminology
-Unseen poetry
-Plot revision for literature texts
-Key quote learning and revision
-Understanding the context for Literature texts
-Familiarising with English Language Paper 1 and 2
-Understanding and working with the mark scheme
-Essay feedback- how to improve
-General English revision tips and methods
Lessons are typically an hour long (longer if requested!) following an initial 30 minute free consultation lesson where I will discuss the student's desired areas for improvement and get to know how they work best!
Lessons are tailored to the individual depending on their needs or abilities. I have worked with students of all abilities: including those who simply desire a clear route to pass all the way up to students who are reaching top grades but could use some English Language expertise to give their answers that edge.
