About Hannah
Hi, I'm Hannah.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen with a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, I moved to France.
While there, I set up a tutoring business, teaching English as a foreign language to people of all ages, from 3-year-olds learning English through games and songs to business people in their sixties looking to hone their linguistic skills.
After moving back to the UK, I continued tutoring and began writing professionally as well. On top of this, I run Creative Writing workshops for people of all ages and perform as an actor, dancer and singer.
I love helping people to find confidence in themselves and develop their ideas.

My method of teaching focuses on the needs of the individual. I tailor each of my lessons to suit my students, ensuring they get the most out of their lessons.
We'll always begin with an introductory session which will consist of a general assessment and discussion of aims.
I teach people of all ages. Anyone who would like some help creatively, whether that's a well-read adult, someone studying for their GCSE's, or a 5-year-old who's still getting their J's and G's mixed up!
I have a full DBS check and work with children of all ages on a regular basis.
Lessons are available online and location permitting, in person.
Minimum one hour per lesson.
What To Expect In Each Lesson
GCSE level:
Literature & Poetry
We will work through each piece of literature, at a pace that suits the student, analysing and discussing the writing in-depth throughout the session.
This analysis will include comparison techniques, advice on how to compare unseen poetry as well as which poems to couple together and why, how to spot and link together ongoing themes throughout literature, and learning how to make the mark scheme work for you.
We will end the session with the student answering an exam-style question about the text, that will be finished off as homework and discussed/marked at the beginning of the next lesson.
Writing
We will use various creative writing exercises taken from my creative writing workshops to hone skills and build confidence in writing. We will look at and complete exam-style questions, practicing technique and grammar while encouraging imaginative use of language.
We will discuss the mark scheme and how to make it work for the student.
14 & Under:
These lessons can vary dramatically, depending on the needs of the individual. I teach students as young as 5 years old, so of course, what needs to be addressed is different every time. I use games and fun exercises to make learning more fun for younger students.
I fully believe in the power of regular reading alongside encouraging a child's imagination and developing confidence through creative writing.
Adults:
I can help you to develop your creative writing skills and general writing techniques. Each lesson will be built around what you'd like to focus on, if you have an idea for a story, our lessons will be built around that.
Original pieces will be created in each lesson using different techniques and exercises. We can develop characters, plotlines and scenes until you feel satisfied with the results.
