About Eric
I have ten years of experience teaching students of all levels at multiple international schools in Shanghai, China. I have received high praise from school administrators, parents, and students in every environment that I have worked in.
In all of my roles I have consistently put the students first, prioritizing support, compassion, and listening. I aim to give maximum agency to students, encouraging them to learn by doing rather than passively absorbing from lectures. I assign material ahead of class so that we can spend our time working through ideas together, discussing concepts, and applying them in meaningful ways instead of focusing primarily on reading.
I expose students to a variety of writing styles, rhetorical techniques, and literary devices, and challenge them to incorporate these into both their writing and their speaking. Students practice expressing their ideas clearly and confidently through structured discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities, helping them develop strong communication skills across contexts.
I provide clear rubrics so students have a thorough understanding of how their work—both written and spoken—will be evaluated. We also practice using these rubrics to assess the work of others, encouraging critical thinking, reflection, and a deeper understanding of effective communication.
I have experience preparing lessons for students at all levels, from middle school through high school, and I adapt my approach to meet diverse learning needs while fostering confidence in both written and verbal expression.
