About Rhona
I am a current PhD student in Contemporary English at the University of Cambridge. I have a Double First from my undergraduate Cambridge degree, as well as an Oxford MSt with Distinction. I am truly passionate about English Literature, with a particular interest in Shakespeare, Milton, the Romantic poets, the Victorians, and modern literature. Being asked to talk about the subject I love is a genuine pleasure.
Although I have reached a high level academically, I have not always found reading and writing to be easy or stress-free. I was unusually slow to learn to read as a child, and was in special spelling-support at school during Year 3. I have real empathy for anyone who is embarrassed by spelling mistakes, or finds reading texts challenging, and I see these traits as no barrier to achieving success and enjoying English.

I take pride in being adaptable, and responding to the needs of my students. Firstly, I want to help my students enjoy English, and to find points of entry into a text or task that will allow them to become truly enthusiastic. Secondly, I have always been systematic and organised in my own approach to exams and assessments and this informs the way in which I teach my students. After instilling enthusiasm and knowledge, the most important way to aid a student is to help them understand exactly what they need to do, and help them to do it in the most efficient way possible, whether that be revision or exam technique.
