About Rachel

An experienced English professor, I have taught countless students over the years in the California State University System..., served as a consulting editor for a political scientist's highly regarded book, and currently work as a freelance writer. As an instructor, I've assisted students--who transferred to elite universities--with their admissions/scholarship Statements of Purpose essays. Those students are now filmmakers, attorneys, physicians, publicists....

About the lesson

My student-centered pedagogy revolves around the Socratic Method, which is adaptable to meet students' remote instruction needs. While it is unethical to write students' papers, I provide feedback on the content, prose style, and grammatical effectiveness of students' own writing. We will review the selected university's essay guidelines, the student's essay draft, and ways to improve its overall effectiveness. I will respond to any updated drafts during subsequent sessions.
