About April
I chose literature as a major because I love reading, and I love researching and digging deeper into how language creates meaning. I wasn’t skilled at that point in knowing how to academically write up my findings until I started taking more science-based classes that had to use specific language to convey a message. Once I started recognizing that language can be used in different ways, I started practicing what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. Creating a voice was half the assignment, and organizing and planning out how it would be understood by readers was the other part. Throughout my years in college, this is something that I became good enough in to be able to teach it at a college level. I originally taught preschool and elementary school so I am able to step back and meet the student where they are to make lesson plans that are age-appropriate, but still follow that same idea of creating a voice and organizing thoughts into words that help create meaning.
