About Kyla
I have 8 years teaching English as a subject. I have home schooled various age learners from Kindergarten to A level learners. I have tutored learners from age 5 to 18. I have worked as a language base teacher, in a UK school helping refugees to build up functional English and Maths. I worked in the UK for 2 years and in South Africa for 8 years teaching both South African and Cambridge International English. I have worked as a Remedial Specialist, Building up reading, writing, spelling and language skills. I studied MAKATON and used it to help bridge gaps in language development. I studied and majored in English at Rhodes University. I also received a TEFL certificate in London and have a TESOL from Teach INTERNATIONAL Australia.

My teaching method is based on Gardeners multiple Intelligence Model, Experiential Learning approach and I try to make lessons as relevant and as interactive as possible. This means that I Tap into all different kinds of intellegences, like musical , visual , technical, logical, body kinesthetic, space and lingustic(word)as well as visual like pictures and images. I try to give the learner an experience, get them to say , write, and do different things and then take that experience and link it to their interests and life experiences. For example they will look at a picture of someone in a shop. Comment on what they see the person doing/ buying. Turn it into a song or dance. Go over key vocab. Then use vocab to construct sentences. Then use sentences in a dialogue talking to a friend about what they did at the shop.then build one language concept that links them all. Homework: bring 5 items you bought last week. Discuss what they are and why you bought them. (characteristics, function and past tense)
