About Emily
I am a smiley and upbeat graduate of the University of Exeter looking to share my love of English with students who may be struggling to understand subject content or to reach their potential in a classroom setting. I completed my PGCE in Secondary English at the University of Exeter, being graded as Outstanding, and am keen to work with children of any age that need help. I am currently working as a English teacher in East London with students from 11-18 years old.
My most important aim is to give students the tools and confidence to think and work independently so that they feel equipped to tackle problems without my presence which will, in turn, help improve their academic performance. My methods try to incorporate a range of learning styles adapted to suit your child. I use my knowledge of teaching as well as my tutoring experience to get the best work from your child but also make sure that they enjoy themselves.

Prizes and Scholarships :
I have been given the Ted Wragg Award by the University of Exeter. This award is for trainees who are considered to be outstanding in the classroom. Additionally, I was the only person on my type of PGCE to be selected to receive it.
Other Qualifications :
I have worked in a Chinese University for a summer teaching 19 year old students about English culture and language. Whilst I was studying for my degree, I worked as a Reading Mentor at Ladysmith Junior School, at Reading Girls' School as a Teaching Assistant for 2 months and worked at Headington Girls' School as a Teaching Assistant in the primary and secondary schools once a week for a year.

Emily has been teaching my ten year old Elise in Maths and english for her 11+.....Emily arrives every week with incomparable enthusiasm and patience for the time delaying tricks my daughter tries to use....and once they do settle down upstairs we hear a lot of laughing whilst they seem to plough through a lot of material - so we are delighted.
