About Martin

I’m passionate about economics, and more importantly, passing that passion onto my students. I gained a Masters with Distinction in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a 1st class BSc from University College London.

I have tutored students from almost all UK universities in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and mathematics. I passed the Cambridge admission test, and Civil Service Fast Stream assessments.

I have a single focus: to provide my students with high-quality economics tutoring. I’m able to help with everything related to economics, including catching up with coursework, exam preparation, and dissertation help. I’m able to help with Bachelors and Masters-level courses. At present, I am only offering online tutoring sessions. I can be fully flexible when it comes to this, and can do it Monday to Friday, in the evening, or even on the weekend.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've always loved economics! I starting reading economics books when I was at school, and it seemed like the natural next step to study it at university as well. Since graduating, I have worked part-time as an economics tutor ever since! I've always enjoyed talking to students, helping them understand the material, and sharing my passion for economics.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Economics is fundamentally the study of human decision-making, but this can include a wide variety of different fields! There really aren't any economics topics that I don't like to discuss with my students! All of economics can be interesting if you think deeply about the implications of them.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

At university, I found that all of my tutors were passionate about their subject. This always really motivated me to find my 'niche' and to try to share my passion with other people.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Fundamentally, you really have to love the subject! Students will be able to tell if you are half-hearted!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I have done many group projects at university, and each one has given me new and different perspectives and insights on how to best approach economics.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Keeping up with the latest thinking in economics can be tough - there are many economists creating very interesting work!
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Sharing my love of economics is a passion of mine! Being able to help students fully understand a topic that they have struggled with, and seeing it 'click' with them, is what keeps me going!
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

I hope that my experience of teaching economics for over 5 years, to many many students across most UK universities, sets me apart as a SuperProf!
