About Madeline
As a professionally certified English educator through the Florida Department of Education and current PhD student in Curriculum and Instruction, I bring both academic expertise and a genuine passion for helping students grow as thinkers, readers, and writers. My 6+ years of teaching experience have shaped a tutoring approach that is structured, supportive, and deeply personalized. Every lesson begins with clear goals tailored to the student’s needs—whether that’s mastering essay structure, analyzing complex literature, strengthening reading comprehension, or improving rhetorical expression. I guide students through a combination of modeling, discussion, and hands-on practice, always emphasizing critical thinking and clarity of communication. My lessons typically follow a balanced structure: 1. Connection and Goal Setting – Briefly assess prior understanding and identify the focus for the day. 2. Instruction and Exploration – Engage with a text, prompt, or writing sample through guided discussion and targeted skill practice. 3. Application and Reflection – Apply the skill independently and receive immediate, constructive feedback. What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect high-level academic expectations with meaningful, encouraging guidance. I don’t just teach content—I teach students how to think critically, organize their ideas, and develop confidence in their own voice. My approach integrates research-based literacy strategies with my love for world literature, allowing students to see language as both a tool for success and a gateway to global understanding. My goal is simple: to help every student I work with read more deeply, write more clearly, and believe more fully in their own ability to learn and succeed.

My tutoring approach is rooted in student-centered learning and critical engagement with text. I believe every learner brings unique experiences and perspectives to the study of language and literature, so I design lessons that build on students’ strengths while addressing their specific goals—whether that’s improving reading comprehension, refining essay structure, or deepening literary analysis.
I begin each session with a brief check-in and a clear learning objective. From there, lessons often include a blend of guided reading, discussion, and skill application. For example, when working on essay writing, we might analyze model texts together, practice crafting strong thesis statements, and then move into individualized writing feedback. My goal is always to help students think deeply and write with purpose.
My background as a PhD student in Curriculum and Instruction allows me to draw on research-based strategies that promote critical thinking, reflective writing, and transferable literacy skills. I also weave in my passion for world literature to expose students to diverse voices and ideas, making learning both relevant and inspiring.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect academic rigor with genuine encouragement. I help students build confidence in their ideas, develop their own analytical voice, and see writing and reading as creative acts of discovery—not just assignments to complete.
I work with middle school and high school students, as well as undergraduate-level students seeking to strengthen their communication or academic writing skills. Whether you’re preparing for essays, exams, or simply looking to grow as a reader and writer, I tailor each lesson to meet your current level and long-term goals.
