About Aliya

I’ve always enjoyed the process of figuring out how things work, and that curiosity is a big part of what drew me to mathematics. I also genuinely enjoy helping other people reach that same moment when something that once seemed difficult suddenly makes sense.

As a tutor, I’m patient, approachable, and happy to look at a problem from several different angles. I know that students can sometimes feel frustrated or lose confidence when they don’t immediately understand something, so I try to create an environment where questions are encouraged and there is no pressure to “get it” straight away.

Outside of mathematics and tutoring, I have a strong interest in mental health and emotional intelligence, particularly in understanding how people think, learn, and respond to challenges. I find this has naturally shaped the way I work with students: I try to understand the person behind the difficulty, rather than focusing only on the problem in front of me. I believe that building confidence and a positive relationship with learning is just as important as getting the right answer.

I provide focused, 60-minute lessons designed to give students greater clarity and confidence in Mathematics. I start by understanding how each student thinks and identifying where they may be struggling. Rather than simply teaching a method and moving on, I look for the gaps in their understanding and use different, practical ways of explaining a concept until it genuinely clicks. Lessons are interactive and hands-on, giving students plenty of opportunity to work through problems, ask questions, and develop their own reasoning.

My aim is not to help students memorise and apply formulas, but to help them “think mathematically” — understanding why a method works and how to approach unfamiliar problems with confidence. This deeper understanding can translate into stronger performance in GCE exams, while developing skills that will benefit them in further education.

With over eight years of tutoring experience, an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Economics, and a Master's degree in Economics, I bring a strong academic foundation to my teaching. More importantly, I combine this knowledge with years of experience adapting my approach to different students, helping them overcome difficulties and build genuine confidence in mathematics.
