About Jos
I am passionate about teaching mathematics because I see it as a gateway to critical thinking and problem-solving—skills that reach far beyond the classroom. Mathematics often gets a reputation as a challenging or intimidating subject, but I believe it has the potential to inspire confidence and intellectual curiosity when taught with clarity and enthusiasm. I want to help students move past any fear or frustration and discover the logic, creativity, and satisfaction that come with understanding mathematical concepts.
Teaching maths, particularly at the GCSE level and below, allows me to work with students at a crucial stage in their educational journey. These foundational years are when many students form their opinions and attitudes about maths, and my goal is to make their experience a positive and empowering one. By breaking down complex ideas into accessible steps and relating concepts to real-life applications, I aim to show students that maths is not only manageable but genuinely useful and relevant. I want them to leave our lessons with a sense of accomplishment and the tools to approach any mathematical problem with confidence.
My approach is also rooted in the belief that mathematics is a valuable tool for fostering resilience and independence. As students work through problems, they learn to persevere, think critically, and apply systematic strategies—skills that benefit them across all areas of life. Teaching mathematics isn’t just about passing exams; it’s about helping students develop these core abilities that will serve them well in any field they choose to pursue. Ultimately, I teach maths because I want to help students build a strong, positive foundation that will support their future growth and learning.

Perfect! Jos is really great to work with. He adjusts to everything you need, without any problems. Jos really helped with my sons Maths in a few weeks, he picked up quickly where he lacked and was really informative in the lessons and in between session checking in and setting homework. My Son felt a lot more confident going into his GCSEs after lessons with Jos. Jos was also very honest on if he felt he didn’t need extra lessons and said to not waste money if he was capable of achieving a pass mark at that stage. Would use him again.
Thanks again JosI’ve been taking saxophone lessons with Jos for about six months now and we have been focusing on classical repertoire and technique. I have seen such a big improvement in this time and couldn’t recommend him more!
We asked Jos to give our son a few lessons when he was struggling with his GCSE coursework. His tuition was so helpful! Jos tutored my son online in the last few months before GCSE, as he was struggling with certain concepts and losing what little motivation there had been. Jos was quickly able to put my son at ease, discern the areas of the curriculum on which to focus and then put forward a tutoring plan. Jos is very organised, well prepared and reliable. My son was happy and even enjoyed the sessions.
Jos worked with me to explain four part harmony and other areas of composition I struggling with. He has a way of explaining things that makes it easy to understand. He also helped me with musical theory. He is calm, patient and very personable. I would definitely recommend him if you are looking to improve your understanding of musical composition and theory.
