About Virginia

Hi! I’m an experienced middle school science teacher with a strong background in curriculum development and student-centered learning.

I specialize in helping students in grades 6–8 build confidence and truly understand what they’re learning—not just memorize it. I focus on breaking down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps.

My teaching approach emphasizes:

Building strong foundational skills

Developing problem-solving and critical thinking

Supporting different learning styles

Creating a positive, low-stress learning environment

I have extensive experience designing lessons that engage students and help them make meaningful connections, especially in science topics like cells, ecosystems, physical science, and earth science.

I’m especially passionate about working with students who:

Feel behind or lack confidence

Need help staying organized

Benefit from clear explanations and encouragement

Sessions can be tailored to homework help, test prep, or long-term skill building.

Let’s work together to help your student feel more confident and successful!

About the lesson

I approach lessons with the end in mind. What are we trying to accomplish? From there, we can work towards the goal with a student-centered, hands-on approach. I aim to aid students with the pedagogy that I am helping them learn HOW to think, and not WHAT to think, so that students take ownership of their knowledge by the end of the lesson.

Virginia is a great scientist and a great teacher! She is patient, compassionate and knowledgeable. She’s an accomplished scientist in her own right, with published scientific papers in the best journals like Science and Nature! She seems to really enjoy teaching and helping students really understand science concepts. And she’s bilingual, English and Spanish.
