Math is rarely about memorizing formulas—it is about building the confidence and problem-solving skills to look at a tough question and know exactly where to start. If you or your child are feeling stuck, anxious, or left behind by classroom paces, my online sessions provide a calm, encouraging space to rebuild that foundation.

Subjects I tutor across all academic levels:
1) Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Geometry
2) Probability and Advanced Statistics (including University-level stats)
3) Exam preparation, coursework support, and assignments

My lessons are highly interactive. We use clear digital whiteboards, step-by-step visualizations, and look at mistakes simply as excellent learning opportunities.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My deep-rooted interest in Mathematics was sparked quite early, specifically in Grade 6, when I first grasped that math wasn't just about calculations, but a logical puzzle that was genuinely fun to solve. I began to see the beauty in patterns and the elegance of formulas. What truly ignited my passion for private tutoring was the rewarding experience of helping those around me. I spent time assisting my classmates and, most importantly, my younger sister in not only understanding complex mathematical concepts but also seeing their grades improve in the long run. The most defining moment was witnessing the culmination of that hard work: seeing the sheer joy when their results were announced, and especially when my sister secured a scholarship for her O Levels from her dream school. That achievement underscored the profound impact personalized guidance can have. I formally started tutoring in 2020 during the initial COVID-19 lockdowns, when schools were closed, and there was a pressing need to keep students engaged and learning effectively from home.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Mathematics, which I consider essential to nearly all fields, from engineering and finance to the behavioral sciences. I also offer specialized tutoring in powerful statistical software like SPSS and STATA, bridging the gap between theoretical math and practical data analysis.

I particularly enjoy discussing topics that involve dynamic thinking and real-world application with my students: Algebra, Calculus, Probability and Statistics, and Trigonometry. I love showing students how to model complex problems and apply concepts to real-world scenarios, such as designing systems or analyzing data. Topics I find less engaging to teach are those that rely heavily on strict memorization or visual proofs, such as Euclidean Geometry. Nevertheless, I recognize its critical role in foundational learning and guide my students through its logical structures effectively.
  • 3) Did you have any role models, a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely. My high school Mathematics teacher, Mr. Eliphaz, was a profound inspiration and a true role model who shaped my approach to teaching today. He didn't just teach the curriculum; he made the subject fun and genuinely enjoyable. His core philosophy, which I now integrate into my own tutoring, was to always practice doing math problems. He taught us that familiarity with problem types, no matter how twisted or complex, is the key to eliminating fear and building automaticity. He built tremendous confidence in the entire class by celebrating the effort and the process of learning, showing me that a great educator is first and foremost a brilliant motivator.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe the top qualities required to be an excellent tutor are Patience and Adaptability. You must be patient because every student learns at a different pace and through a unique process. Adaptability is crucial because a tutor needs to be ready to pivot their teaching method from diagrams to analogies to practical examples the moment they see the student struggling with the current approach. Finally, Enthusiasm is key; if I am excited about the subject, my students are much more likely to be engaged and motivated to learn.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

My most valuable anecdote relates directly to overcoming a major hurdle in my own learning journey. When I entered Grade 9, I struggled immensely with the complexity and speed of high school Mathematics. I was suddenly faced with the challenge of being among the lowest performing students. In Grade 10, I decided to take personal initiative. I established a rigorous commitment: I would practice Mathematics every single day without fail. More importantly, I started teaching myself new topics ahead of the curriculum. This strategy meant that by the time a concept was taught in class, I was essentially just revising it. This proactive approach was transformative, leading to me becoming the top student in the entire stream of eight classes from that point until the end of high school. That vital shift in perspective, the belief that you can overcome any difficulty through discipline and self-guided learning, is the most valuable lesson I strive to instill in every one of my students.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The greatest challenge I now face as a tutor is primarily psychological: helping students overcome the initial fear or anxiety they associate with Mathematics. Many students come to me with a predetermined belief that they are "bad" at math or that the subject is inherently "too hard" for them. My central task extends beyond just teaching content. It is to rebuild their confidence and fundamentally shift their perspective. I achieve this by normalizing struggle, focusing on small wins, and emphasizing the Growth Mindset, showing them that their struggles are entirely normal and solvable through consistent effort and finding the right learning strategy.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

While I have a profound passion for Mathematics itself, my particular passion lies in the art of simplified explanation and turning complex ideas into accessible knowledge. I find immense joy in the process of breaking complex concepts into simple, fun, and solvable problems. My teaching is methodical: first, ensuring full conceptual mastery step-by-step; and second, introducing simpler, faster, and more efficient methods for solving questions. Because math proficiency is also a test of time management, I dedicate time to teaching students how to manage their time effectively during exams, ensuring they have ample time to proofread and review their work for avoidable errors.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What truly makes me a Superprof is my unwavering commitment to tangible results and sustainable success. I approach every student relationship with a singular goal: to make them measurably better than I found them. My dedication is twofold: not only to boosting their immediate grades but also to equipping them with the essential study skills, logical reasoning abilities, and profound confidence they need to tackle new challenges independently in the future.
