About Emily
Hi, I am currently a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying classical voice. During my time at secondary school (James Allen’s Girls’ School), I greatly enjoyed being part of community programmes where I tutored maths and English in a one-on-one setting to both secondary and primary school aged children. In addition, I spent time volunteering as a classroom assistant, working with Year 3 students at Rye Oak Primary School. I have also spent two summer working as a mentor with the Southwark Library Summer Reading Challenge programme to encourage children in their enjoyment of reading. My experiences have been invaluable in giving me an insight into how to work with children from all backgrounds and ages, and have shaped my approach into one that focuses on fostering real enjoyment of a subject by ensuring that students have a firm basis of knowledge from which they are able to build on with confidence.
As well as having achieved excellent GCSE qualifications (10A*s, 1 A) during my time at James Allen’s Girls’ School, I excelled while studying in the US for Sixth Form, achieving 5’s (Calculus BC, Physics C: Mechanics, US History, and English Language & Composition) and 4’s (Computer Science A & Statistics) as well as a 2240 on the old-style SATs. Thus, I am well posed to tutor students for both English and American exams. Furthermore, with Grade 8 ABRSM qualifications in classical piano and voice, I am confident in my ability to tutor musical students.
