About Maruthy
I hold a PhD in Statistics and have more than 30 years of professional experience working with statistics, mathematics, quantitative modeling, and data analysis. Earlier in my career, I taught undergraduate mathematics and statistics for several semesters, and I have continued teaching and mentoring students throughout the years.
I am also the author of The Compendium of Statistical Tests, a comprehensive reference covering 255 statistical tests and methods. Writing the book grew out of my interest in explaining statistical ideas in a structured and understandable way while still maintaining mathematical rigor.
I enjoy teaching and particularly value the moment when a difficult concept begins to make sense to a student. I bring both academic knowledge and extensive real-world quantitative experience to my tutoring, while keeping the sessions patient, approachable, and focused on the individual student.

My teaching approach is based on understanding first and formalism second. Rather than asking students to memorize formulas or procedures, I first explain the intuition behind a concept and why a particular method works. We then move to the mathematical details and apply the ideas through carefully chosen examples.
A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student already understands and where the difficulty lies. I explain the key concepts, work through examples step by step, and then have the student solve problems with progressively less guidance. I also emphasize common mistakes, problem-solving strategies, and how to recognize which method to use.
Lessons are customized to the student's course, current level, and goals. I tutor statistics, probability, calculus, precalculus, trigonometry, SAT Math, and related subjects for high school, college, and adult learners. My goal is for students to leave each lesson not only able to solve the immediate problems, but also better prepared to tackle new problems independently.
