About Avon
Hello! I’m Avon, a fully qualified Mandarin teacher with experience as Lead in Mandarin in a UK secondary school. I welcome students of all ages and goals: Young children – fun, playful lessons using games, songs, stories and crafts to build a love of Chinese GCSE students – focused exam preparation with proven results (2026: 100% Grade 5 and above, including 80% Grade 7-9) A-Level students – high-level language and culture support (Grade A achieved by a fully British student) Adults and HSK learners – practical conversation, travel Chinese, business Chinese, or structured HSK 1–6 preparation. I am patient, clear and encouraging. Lessons are personalised and can be online or in-person (Milton Keynes area and Dunstable). I offer a free short consultation so we can discuss your (or your child’s) goals and see how I can help. Looking forward to meeting you!

Through a variety of exercises, students in my classroom will practise both speaking and writing Chinese characters. There are additional specialised exercises available for those with more specific requirements (grammar, listening, etc.).
My students have told me that hearing stories about Chinese myths, fables, and characters has been an enjoyable way to learn the language and culture.
