About Lisa
I have a BS in Physics from the U.S. Military Academy, and an MS in Biology from the University of Kentucky. I have worked as an adjunct instructor at Eastern Kentucky University and as a teacher for the local public library teaching public courses. During graduate school, I supported myself by running my own tutoring business where I tutored a full lineup of students ranging from first grade through adult in a range of subjects. Since earning my Master's, I have worked for a neuroscience research lab, writing software to help streamline and automate their experiments. I still work this job as a part-time consultant, while I fill the rest of my time tutoring. I'm passionate about teaching and loved my time as a tutor in graduate school, so when my consulting work became less time-consuming, I was eager to pick it back up.

My lessons are tailored to each student depending on where they are struggling and why. I can develop curriculum and teach entirely new subjects from scratch. Alternatively, if my student is already learning elsewhere, like in school, I can adapt assignments or curriculum they already have and use it to help fill in the gaps. In our first session, we will sit down together and get a baseline of my student's knowledge and a clear understanding of their goals. After that, we will create a plan together to reach those goals. Depending on how they want to learn and what time they have available, this can include lessons given by me and homework done in their free time, or it can consist entirely of practice with my support during our sessions.
I can teach any age from elementary school through adults, online or in person within a certain distance. I teach English, writing, reading comprehension, math, science, programming, and test preparation from elementary through undergraduate level.
