About Katherine
I absolutely love the feeling when one of my students shows an immense amount of improvement. I tutor because I enjoy when my students excel, and I love to feel as though I have made an impact on their education. I care deeply about each and every student that I work with!
I have always enjoyed working with students and being able to watch their progress. Throughout high school, I spent a great deal of my time tutoring younger students in various levels of math. I fell in love with teaching and being able to share my passion for mathematics with others! As a current math major at Virginia Tech, I enjoy being in a position to assist those who need assistance in math.
Both of my parents are educators and I was encouraged to begin tutoring during my high school career.
I am currentlya junior at Virginia Tech majoring in accounting. During my time in high school, I was an officer in my school's Math Honor's Society. Thus, I spent a great deal of time tutoring in mathematics.

I typically set up a time to confernce with the student and ask them questions about their strengths and areas for growth in regards to mathematics. From these conversations I am able to identify their comfort level with the subject, their preferences for tutoring, and develop a plan of action to address their individual needs. This differentiated approach has translated into success for a large number of students I have worked with over the last five years.
I have worked with students from K-12 in various levels of math classes.

Perfect! Katie planned her lesson plans based on what my son felt he needed help with in Algebra 2 and she taught it in a way that he easily understood. Prior to her tutoring, he struggled in class, but after working with Katie, he ended up getting a 95 on the final! He has trig this semester, so we will are going to start Katie’s tutoring immediately, instead of waiting until the end of the class like we did for Algebra 2.

Katherine was extremely helpful if i didn’t get it right away we’d work problems until I got it. She made a friendship with me that she didn’t have to but did.
Katherine was my tutor all throughout freshman and sophomore year of high school. I never thought I would be able to pass geometry, let alone algebra 2! However, thanks to Katherine, I was able to achieve an A in both courses. She has a way of explaining things that just seem to make sense.
